Some Summer Fun!

Despite the fact most days I'm dressed like an Australian Winter, it is actually Summer in the land of the maple AND much to our surprise 'ol Canada has turned on some spectacular weather for us the last few weeks. When it comes to all time best ever streets we could have moved into, I think we hit the jackpot. There are 2 other houses with 4 year old boys in them and the 3 little boys (Hudson, Nolan and Camden) have been having a ball together on the weekends. Last weekend the sprinkler was brought out and the kids had a top morning running around under it.

He decided it was more fun to join in than whinge about the cold. Better than I would have done.

This was followed by a picnic lunch on the lawn where Buddy tasted peanut butter and jelly sambos (had to throw sambos in there just to feel like an Aussie).

The littlest McCarthy joined in too.

That night we decided to get the firepit happening and toast some marshmallows. Buddy was pretty excited about this.

The evening was capped off with some fireworks for Canada Day at 10.45pm!!! This is the earliest time the fireworks could start. We get very long evenings in Summer. The Canada Day parade the next morning gave Jonno and I a bit of a giggle. It was a very amateur attempt at a parade and let's just say if there wasn't a 3 year old with us, I think we wouldn't have watched past the first float. It gave Jonno flashbacks of his childhood growing up in small town Northern Territory; whenever there was a celebration every emergency vehicle in town would come out.

Ah well, at least they tried and I guess it entertained our son for 45 minutes. 

E has the most stunning green eyes. They've come from my Dad! It's such a lovely genetic throwback as both my brother and I inherited my Mum's brown eyes. Jonno and I used to joke about how our children would look we would say "well they'll definitely have brown hair and brown eyes as we both do". Apparently not. 

Canada Day afternoon Jonno and Bud went with our neighbours and their brand spanking new boat to Jarvis lake for the afternoon/evening. They spent the time tubing out on the lake. E and I had a quiet afternoon at home (Mummy needed to recharge) so thus, I have no pics of this. They had so much fun and Buddy left asking for a tube and boat for his birthday!

These two have certainly been keeping me busy around the house but I feel like I've found the groove of mothering two. Days are tiring but they are such gorgeous little characters to spend those tiring days with.

Buddy is right into cooking. He's an expert at making pancakes/pikelets now and does the whole recipe on his own with some help from me with the stove bit. 

The love affair between these two continues. 

 We've been making the most of the lovely days outside and having lots of lovely picnics in the sun. I know I'll thank myself for this effort and injections of Vitamin D come Winter.

This little E, loves the outdoors, squeals at the trees and birds. 

Jonno had some meetings in Edmonton, so the family packed up too. We decided to head in on Sunday, this weekend just gone and take the kids to a place called Jurassic Forest. It's about an hour north of Edmonton and is as you would've guessed, all about dinosaurs. Buddy is a walking dinosaur encyclopaedia at present and this was right up his alley. I love the magic children create, their imaginations and excitement at seeing some rubber dinosaurs. It makes being a parent such a joy. 

I couldn't help but stop for a photo opportunity in these "buttercups", there are endless fields of them driving along the prairies, I don't know if they are but it felt like the right fit.

Being a turkey, as usual. How could I ever rouse on my kids for  childish behaviour.

While Jonno worked Monday, I took the kids to Galaxyland. We've been here once before when I had to come to Edmonton, to pick the dog up after her surgery. Buddy has been asking to return ever since. It's the world's largest indoor amusement park and it's SO much fun for this little boy. Again, there's ALOT, sorry, I'm going to leave Disneyland without my marriage or at least a really big argument, I can feel it.
